Action to strengthen Aboriginal cultural rights in youth justice centres can’t wait for the outcomes of a previously announced inquiry into the over-representation of Aboriginal children and young people in the state’s youth justice system, according to a new joint report released today by the Commission for Children and Young People and the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.

The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) has opened nominations for Victoria’s Multicultural Awards for Excellence 2018. 

In response to community concern, the Commission wrote to a group suspected of being responsible for a banner hung over Melbourne's Eastern Freeway on Sunday to warn them of a potential contravention of the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001.

The Commission also informed Victoria Police about the incident.
